Personal Development and Enrichment
At Little Milton CE Primary School, personal development and enrichment are at the heart of our vision. Like mustard seeds, we aim to nurture and enable every child to grow and flourish within our caring school community. Underpinned by our Christian values of respect, courage, friendship, wisdom and justice, we believe every child has the right to learn, to be valued and to achieve their academic potential whilst developing their unique talents and interests.
Personal development and enrichment are woven through every aspect of school life. We want every child to leave Little Milton as a confident, compassionate and resilient young person who is curious about the world, values others and is ready to make a positive contribution to society.
As a small school, every child has the opportunity to participate, perform, lead and represent the school. We believe these experiences help children discover new interests, build confidence and create memories that last well beyond their primary years.
Living Our Christian Vision
As a Church of England school, our Christian vision underpins all aspects of school life. Collective worship, Religious Education and opportunities for reflection encourage children to explore big questions, develop spiritually and live out our shared values of respect, courage, friendship, wisdom and justice.
Throughout the year, children participate in church services and celebrations including Harvest, Christingle, Christmas, Easter and Ascension. At the same time, we encourage curiosity, understanding and respect for people of all faiths, beliefs and backgrounds, helping children become compassionate members of a diverse society.
Wellbeing and Pastoral Care
Children’s wellbeing is central to school life. We place great importance on ensuring every child feels safe, valued and able to flourish. Through our PSHE curriculum, high-quality pastoral support and strong partnerships with families, children learn about emotional wellbeing, healthy relationships, physical health, online safety and personal responsibility.
We actively promote kindness, resilience, inclusion and respect, ensuring every child feels a strong sense of belonging within our caring school community. Our nurturing approach enables children to develop confidence, independence and the resilience needed to overcome challenges and embrace new opportunities.
Leadership and Pupil Voice
We believe children should have genuine opportunities to influence school life and develop leadership skills.
Children take on responsibilities through roles such as School Council, Peace Ambassadors, the Liturgy Team and a variety of classroom responsibilities. These opportunities help children develop confidence, responsibility, teamwork and an understanding of how they can make a positive difference within both the school and the wider community.
Pupil voice is valued across school life, with children encouraged to share their ideas, contribute to decision-making and take an active role in shaping our school community.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
We believe that some of the most memorable learning takes place beyond the classroom.
Educational visits, visitors and themed curriculum days enrich children’s learning by bringing subjects to life and providing meaningful real-world experiences. Throughout their time at Little Milton, children enjoy a wide variety of opportunities including theatre visits, museums, historical workshops, wildlife experiences, outdoor learning and residential visits.
Our beautiful rural setting also provides regular opportunities for Forest School and outdoor learning, enabling children to develop resilience, independence, teamwork and a deeper appreciation of the natural world.
Music, Creativity and Performance
Creativity is celebrated across school life.
Children have opportunities to learn musical instruments, sing as part of the school choir, perform in productions and participate in local musical events. Every child has opportunities to perform through class assemblies, collective worship and school productions, developing confidence, teamwork and communication skills.
The arts play an important role in helping children express themselves creatively while discovering and developing their individual talents.
Sport and Physical Development
We encourage every child to enjoy being physically active and to develop healthy habits that will last a lifetime.
Children benefit from high-quality PE lessons, specialist sports coaching, swimming lessons and opportunities to participate in festivals and competitions through the Wheatley Partnership. Sports Day and a wide range of sporting experiences help children develop teamwork, determination, resilience and respect whilst encouraging everyone to participate and achieve their personal best.
Community and Cultural Experiences
As a village school, we are proud of our strong links with the local community.
Parents, volunteers and members of the wider community regularly contribute to school life by supporting reading, accompanying educational visits and sharing their knowledge, skills and experiences with the children.
Children also learn about different cultures, beliefs and traditions through the curriculum, visitors and themed events, helping them develop respect, empathy and an appreciation of the diverse world in which they live.
Preparing Children for the Future
Throughout their time at Little Milton, children develop the knowledge, skills and personal qualities needed to flourish in modern Britain. Through leadership opportunities, enrichment experiences, relationships education, community involvement and the wider curriculum, they learn about democracy, individual liberty, the rule of law, mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs.
Opportunities such as Bikeability, safety education, transition activities and leadership roles help children become increasingly independent, responsible and prepared for the opportunities and challenges of the future. Our curriculum encourages children to think critically, act responsibly, contribute positively to their communities and develop the confidence to embrace lifelong learning.
At Little Milton, personal development and enrichment are not viewed as additional experiences; they are integral to our curriculum and our vision. We want every child to leave our school having grown academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually, ready to flourish as happy, fulfilled and contributing members of society.
