British Science Week

Last week Willow class spent several sessions using their Science and Maths skills to create rain gauges to measure precipitation. This experiment is part of our Seasonal Changes project and tied in nicely with British Science Week.

A group of children helped Mrs Smith to prepare the rain gauges with a small layer of jelly in the bottom (to create an even base to measure the rain from). They then worked in pairs to add a ruler measurement and place the rain collector outside.

Each day the children checked on their rain gauges and the Year 1’s recorded the rainfall from that day. At the end of the week we evaluated our data and discussed which day had the most rainfall, which had the least, and what was the difference between those measurements.

It was a brilliant experiment and the children were so engaged!
